Star Force is my favourite arcade game of all time. I always enjoyed shoot-em-ups and Tehkan (now Tecmo) produced this little beauty that kept me happy throughout 1985.
Star Force involves
you piloting your little fighter over a set of alien continents, destroying both buildings and alien swarms.
The illustration on the left shows the whole of the first continent, with the highlighted section being your
view of it. The screen is always scrolling down, but moving your fighter left to right produces a slow
sideways movement over the land mass as well.
I am indebted to the creators of Sparcade and MAME, for giving lovers of old arcade machines the chance to enjoy them again. Both of these programs (and many more like them) allow you to run the original arcade game code on your home computer. I recommend using Sparcade to play Star Force because, despite a few odd colours and display glitches, it captures the atmosphere perfectly by having great music reproduction.
